HDS Schooling Show Year End Awards

The HDS Year End Awards for Schooling show competitors are offered by division—Youth (JR/YR), Adult Amateur and Open as outlined below. There is an annual HDS Awards Banquet to recognize the winners. The schooling show season runs from Dec 1 of the current year to Nov 30 of the next year.

  1. Awards will consist of a Champion and a Reserve Champion when qualified riders are available.

  2. Winners must be members of HDS and the horse/rider combination must be registered and paid for.

  3. Must have 4 HDS volunteer hours at one of the 7 HDS hosted Horse Shows to be eligible. The 7 shows include the 6 recognized shows (Winter, Pollen & Piaffe, Spring Classic, Summer, Laborious, Region 9 Championships) and the schooling show championships. People with extra hours can donate them to any other HDS member.

  4. Riders must have been HDS members at the time each qualifying score was received.

  5. Scores from opportunity classes at HDS Hosted Recognized Shows may be used as qualifying rides for end-of-year awards calculations. Opportunity class scores MUST be self-reported to the Schooling Show Chair (email photo of test).

  6. Rider/horse combinations must have a minimum of 3 scores in HDS recognized schooling shows from at least 2 different judges per level to be eligible for end of year awards.

  7. Scores from the open schooling show held concurrently with the annual HDS Schooling Show Championship count towards the end-of-year awards for the new show year. Schooling Show Championship classes are not included in end-of-year award averages.

  8. Each award will be given at all 3 divisions with qualifying riders: Adult Amateur, Junior/Youth, Open except for dressage seat equitation which is only given in Adult Amateur and Junior/Youth.

  9. For USDF tests - Introductory through 4th level

    • Award winners are determined by the AVERAGE of the top 3 Schooling show scores of all tests at the same level by a rider /horse combination.

    • One judge duplication is allowed. For multiple high scores from the same judge, the highest two scores from that judge will be used in conjunction with the highest score from a different judge for calculating the average

    • A horse/rider combination can only win at two contiguous levels. If the combination wins at more than two levels, the two highest levels will be used, with the lower level dropped.
