President's Message - May 2010

From the President - Kathy Jones

Greetings!
The Spring Classic Show is behind us and was a great success.  Many thanks go to the Show Committee that helped organize and run the event:
· Jane Holman for recruiting volunteers and organizing the volunteer party

· Sylvia Workman for show decorations, especially the plants, and officials hospitality

· Nisse Pedigo for vendor and sponsor organization

· Sandra Kinkead for organizing the HDS store with the juniors and assisting Nisse with the vendors

· Laurie Jackson for getting the great awards, including breed awards

· Jeanette Snow for creating a beautiful show program

In addition, I would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped make this show successful.  Without them, there would be no show.  The following volunteers worked all three days of the show:

· Karen Peacock in the scoring office

· Christine Smith Byerly in the scoring office

· Kassidy Peacock in many positions

· Hannah Kinkead in many positions

· Amy Talley as a scribe

· Susan Miller as a scribe

Many thanks go to Patsy and Randy Drum for working all day Thursday setting up the show and then working most of the weekend in various position.  They were tireless!                If I missed anyone, let me know, I would like to thank you next month!

The June Show will be here before we know it.  Please contact Jane Holman now to get your name on the volunteer list.  This will only be three rings under cover.  This show will also host the USDF Regional Adult Team Competition.  The entry form is included in the prize list.  Form your teams now.  You can also be placed on a team if you don’t have one.  Make this show fun and sign up.  As a suggestion by Cyndi Craig, there will be a potluck prize money class for anyone that achieved a qualifying score and did not finish in the top three. Look at the prize list for the criteria.

Melany Lipar and Anna Burtell are hosting a Region 9 FEI Junior and Young Rider benefit at Paragon Stables just north of the Woodlands on Sunday, June 6th.  There will be a luncheon, a silent auction and musical freestyles ridden by some of the Juniors and Young Riders as well as Grand Prix Freestyles by Barbi Piccinni and Anna Burtell. Please come and support your Region 9 juniors.  They have to raise all of the money necessary to send the teams to Kentucky.  Tickets for the event are $40 per person.  This event was a tremendous success last year.  Let’s make sure this year is just as successful.

HDS is hosting a two-day freestyle seminar with Trenna Atkins on August 7th and 8th.  Look for more information in the flyer in this newsletter.  She is asking for people to send her actual videos that will be shown during the seminar for teaching purposes.  This is your chance to find out all there is to know about freestyles – design, execution and judging.  Let your creative juices flow!

Elections are in September.  If you are interested in serving on the board, look for information in the June newsletter.  This is your chance to make a difference!  Feel free to contact me with ways to improve our club.  There are no bad ideas.
